CHANGING TIMES: LISA SMITH ON HER NEW ROLES AT D&AD AND UNCOMMON
Lisa Smith has taken on two significant new roles – global chief design officer at Uncommon and this year’s D&AD president. She talks to CR about her plans for both
Lisa Smith is four months into her new job as global chief design officer at Uncommon Creative Studio and just two months into her role as the new president of D&AD. Speaking from her base in New York, surrounded by shelves of books, it’s fair to say she is quite busy.
Despite the newness of this next chapter in her career, spending time between NYC and London has a familiarity to it. Smith has worked extensively in both cities and built up a reputation for creating work that brings about fundamental change in well-known brands – from her work for Burger King and Walmart (launched while at JKR) and US success story Chobani (as in-house ECD), through to steering radical new identities for American institutions as different as The Met and USA Today while head of design at Wolff Olins.
As such, Smith already has a CV with many enviable names attached to it. Prior to her six years as global ECD at JKR, which ended in June this year, her work at Chobani and Wolff Olins was preceded by a brief stint as design director at Moving Brands in San Francisco and three years at Marque in New York. In the formative stages of her career she worked at the V&A Museum’s design studio in London and also at Browns – a work experience application that led to a senior designer position and five years at the highly regarded practice.
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
